Monthly Walk and BBQ at Orton, Penrith

Turnout -
20 owners and 19 Greyhounds:
Davy, Mo, Nula, Blue, Poppy, Lara, Chester, Lass, Oliver, Monty, Rebel, Debbie, Harmony, Murphy, Kitty, Dave, Charlie, Snowy and Belle

Monthly walk started
at All Saints Church at 11:00 for 11:15 departure. The full circular walk was approx. 4.5 miles and had a couple of steep sections leading up to Beacon Hill Monument, but the rest was easy going. Various shortcuts were available and everyone made sure on the day that nobody was left behind or struggling. The suggested alternative shorter route cut underneath Orton Scar at Broadfell to the top of Street Lane, then back into village.

Initially due to the bad weather forecast the planned barbeque was cancelled.  However, the day was more kind than anticipated so while everyone went on the walk Bob got the barbeque working so there were sausages and burgers ready for everyone on their return.

SUNDAY 10th JUNE 2018  - Sizergh
(This walk is registered with the Great Global Greyhound Walk)

Setting off at 11:00 hours from the car park near the cafe the walk took a route around the fields and woodland surrounding Sizergh Castle. It started and finished at the cafe where everyone met afterwards for a drink, a snack and to let the dogs shelter in the shade under the trees.
We are pleased to announce that 37 greyhounds turned out on what can easily be said was an extremely hot day.  A couple of dogs suffered from the heat but with plenty of water and wet towels to hand they were okay.
Sunday 13th MAY 2018 -
Arnside - LA5 0HA
11:00 hours. - meeting at the end of the pier under the flagpole
We returned to Arnside after our first attempt in September 2017 was thwarted by torrential rain. This time we had a beautiful day, 36 greyhounds turned up and we managed the full walk. As usual there was a shorter option for those not wanting to do a long walk and the full walk took roughly 1.5 hours.
Various free parking options
were along the promenade and a free car park was opposite the Fish & Chip Cafe on Station Road alongside the estuary. Tea, coffee and cakes were brought by the volunteers and were available afterwards for a donation.  This made us a whopping £65.43 and all the proceeds going towards the care and homing of the greyhounds at the branch.
A big thank you to all who attendended and all who donated the cakes and biscuits to go with the tea and coffee.
